THE PROJECT

The vocation of the polytechnic system can be summarized, essentially, with the following considerations: development and maturity of the Portuguese System of Polytechnic Higher Education (ESP); it’s geographic coverage and diversity of scientific areas; the experience and dynamics acquired from joint participation in international networks and in the project Portugal Polytechnics (SIAC Internationalization); a significant increase in the international dimension of the Portuguese ESP; synergies with the business sector and regional institutions. Therefore, it is crucial to implement measures that can promote the expansion of this policy, as well as reinforce the mechanisms that foment internationalization of the IES and the Portuguese economy, and cooperation for development. So, the measures to be implemented should be structured by different, but complementary objectives, to help reinforce the internationalization of regional and national economies. The measures will also help demographic continuance and international affirmation of the ESP and the Portuguese scientific and technological system, ensuring at the same time future sustainability of the recommended actions.
