PhD in Sport Sciences

Applications

Call for Applications – PhD in Sport Sciences (2026/2027)
A total of 20 positions are available, distributed across partner institutions.

Applicants must meet one of the following:

  • Hold a Master’s degree (or equivalent) with a minimum grade of 14/20 in relevant fields;
  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum grade of 14/20 in relevant fields;
  • Demonstrate a strong academic, scientific, or professional curriculum recognised as suitable for doctoral study.
  • Applications must be submitted online through the chosen institution
  • Candidates may indicate up to 5 additional institutions (by preference)
  • All required documentation must be uploaded at submission
 

The following documents must be submitted as part of the application:

a) Curriculum Vitae, detailing academic and professional background, as well as scientific and professional experience, in accordance with the evaluation criteria defined in Section 4 of this Call (maximum 10 pages);

b) Copies of documents referenced in the Curriculum Vitae;

c) Copy of Identity Card/Citizen Card/Passport or other valid identification document (optional);

d) Official academic transcript(s) of completed degree(s), including final grade(s);

e) Diploma(s) of other academic qualifications listed in the CV;

f) Certificates evidencing professional experience;

g) Copies of scientific publications;

h) Certificates of presentation and/or participation in scientific events;

i) A document outlining the proposed research topic for the doctoral thesis (maximum 4 pages);

j) Proof of doctoral scholarship funding, where applicable.

Applications are evaluated on a 0–20 scale, based on:

  • Academic and professional background (40%)
  • Scientific and professional track record (40%)
  • Relevance of research proposal (20%)

For the purpose of evaluating each of these factors, the following criteria will be applied:

Academic and Professional Background in Sport Sciences

a) Bachelor’s degree – final grade
b) Master’s degree – final grade
c) Other academic or professional training – 0.5 points per hour of certified training activities, up to a maximum of 20 points

Scientific and Professional Track Record in Sport Sciences

a) Publications in books or journals – 4 points per indexed publication, 1 point if not indexed
b) Presentations at scientific or professional events – 2 points per event
c) Professional experience in Sport Sciences – 1 point per year, up to a maximum of 10 points
d) Approved doctoral scholarship – 40 points

Relevance of the Research Topic to the Programme Objectives

a) Definition of the intended research area and line for the doctoral thesis (up to 10 points)
b) Scientific project approved for doctoral funding (scholarship) – 30 points


For evaluation purposes, candidates will be graded based on the weighted average of the scores obtained in each of the criteria.

For ranking purposes, candidates will be placed in a single ordered list.

1st Phase

  • Enrolment: 27 – 30 July 2026

2nd Phase*

  • Applications: 1 – 7 September 2026
  • Results: 14 September 2026
  • Enrolment: 21 – 23 September 2026

Annual tuition fee: €1,500*

*Additional administrative fees may apply according to each institution.

  • Admitted candidates must complete enrolment within the specified deadlines
